The Great American Read Comes to CET and ThinkTV this Summer

Posted by Kellie May on

The Great American Read offers a forum for readers to express what titles and stories they’re passionate about and share how the novels impacted their lives … The power of reading is extraordinary- it allows us to escape to new worlds, introduces us to a diverse range of people, opens our minds to different ideas, and allows us to keep learning no matter our age or background” – Meredith Vieira, host of The Great American Read

The Great American Read, an eight-part series that takes viewers on a journey to uncover the nation’s 100 most-loved novels, premieres this Tuesday, May 22, at 8pm on CET and ThinkTV16. The two-hour premiere will include key authors, celebrities, and notable figures in the entertainment, sports, news and literary worlds, many of whom will campaign for their own favorite books on the list. Margaret Atwood, Jenna and Barbara Bush, Chelsea Clinton, Morgan Freeman, Lauren Graham, John Green, Gayle King, Shaquille O’Neal, Gabrielle and many others will share their personal stories and connections to their favorite titles throughout the series.

After the premiere, voting will open – both online at http://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/ and through social media. The series will then return in the fall with additional episodes exploring the nominated books through themes including “Heroes,” “Villains & Monsters,” “Who Am I?,” “What We Do for Love,” “Other Worlds,” and will conclude with an exciting finale and countdown to “America’s Best-Loved Book.”

We encourage our viewers at CET/ThinkTV to get involved by looking at the list of books as a whole and taking the quiz to see how many novels you’ve read: http://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/quiz. Also let us know your favorite book on the list by taking a “shelfie” with your favorite book and posting it on social media with the tags @CETconnect or @ThinkTV as well as the hashtag #GreatReadPBS.
