WORKSHOP SCHEDULE FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS 2015-2016

Our Mission is to empower and engage child care providers by providing top-notch training with hands-on activities and developmentally appropriate resources to better the lives of children and families in our area. Providers will have the materials and ideas to put into practice current child development theories. Handouts include picture books, resource books, and educational materials. Baby Teeth are Important! Brush! Dental Health Curriculum – 2 hours
Learn how important dental health is for growing bodies and how to prevent the number one health concern for preschoolers – dental decay – through tooth brushing and nutrition. Includes a curriculum book of multi-disciplinary activities to encourage good dental health plus storybooks (value $32).

Exploring Nature with Children: Getting the Most from PBS Resources & Growing Up WILD! – 3 hours
Leaves, water, plants and a wide variety of wild life can be spotted no matter where you live.  Stepping outside and exploring nature can be an engaging lesson for young children.  Includes: math, language arts, music and movement. This workshop includes the curriculum book Growing Up Wild (value $29.44), and several children’s storybooks (value $37).   

Breathe Easy: Adapting Your Environment for Children With Asthma – 2 hours
Many people think there is little they can do to help the child with asthma. This workshop spends time demonstrating simple changes to prevent hospital stays. Simple things can be done to reduce the triggers for these children. Includes children’s storybooks (value $18).

Parent Communication: It’s Easy! It’s Important! – 2 hours
When teachers and parents are on the same side, children thrive and so does your business.  Learn some easy ways to grow relationships with parents. The result may also increase your enrollment! Cost includes several children’s storybooks (value $24)

STEM with Young Children: Design a Glider – 2 hours
Children are natural scientists and can learn to be engineers. Use the engineering design process (ask-think-plan-test-make better) to find the best solution to design a glider. The Dayton STEM School curriculum is the guidebook and handout along with several children’s storybooks (value $37).

Print Rich Environments: Creating Learning Environments for the Whole Child – 2 hours
Build language and literacy skills by using simple activities to make children aware of the words and print in their environment and in books. Cost includes several children’s storybooks (value $24).

Math is Everywhere – 2 hours
ath includes geometric shapes, numbers, size, pattern, and order. Explore the math concepts that can be part of early childhood settings. Use story books and video to help teach math. Cost includes several children’s storybooks to add to your library (value $ 24).

Literacy Experiences Using PBS Resources – 2 hours
Engage young children and the adults who care for them in interactive literacy skills. Adults will develop confidence in their skills to teach and foster early literacy skills using both digital and hands-on activities. Includes DVD with a week of literacy lessons and storybooks (value $28).

Investigating the Learning Environment and Its Impact on Behavior – 2 hours
Explore best practice strategies and change the physical childcare environment to promote social emotional control. Curriculum ideas will be presented to teach appropriate social skills and concepts. Includes children’s storybooks (value $24).

How do I schedule a station tour for my classroom?

We conduct station tours Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm.  If you would like to set up a station tour or request a special tour date or time please call (937) 220-1708 or email: dthevenin@thinktv.org.

ThinkTV’s Ready to Learn service is designed to help young children become effective learners.  Use “View, Read, Do” to extend your child’s television learning.

What is the PBS Kids Writers Contest?

This contest was created to encourage children to express themselves through writing and drawing.  Each year we invite children to write, illustrate and submit stories to ThinkTV.  First, second and third place winners are chosen in four categories Kindergarten, first, second and third grades.  Contact Debi Thevenin  (937-220-1708), email: dthevenin@thinktv.org for more information.
